Yesterday, Rescuetech held their end of year function and get together which in true selfless style of a volunteer organisation was abandoned by the team to go render assistance to the Fire Department in rescuing a man trapped up a large gum tree. It took rescuers a little over an hour to ascend the tree and lower the man down who had been trimming the tree when he dropped his rope and became trapped in the upper branches.
Unfortunately, not a good outcome to our rescue call out tonight. Condolences to all family and Friends.. once again great teamwork by Rescuetech - ER24 - SAPS Search and Rescue -Gillits Fire department. Closure to the family.
A short video on SAR dogs from our brothers across the ocean all the way in Canada. North Shore Rescue and British Columbia Search Dog Association.
At about 03h30 this morning we received a call from Kloof Neighbourhood watch to say that there is someone in the Kloof Gorge screaming for help. We quickly got all our members up and ready to respond to Kloof Gorge. The neighborhood watch and Blue security managed to locate which side of the Kloof Gorge the patience was. Two of our members walked down to the patient to assess his injuries. It is alleged that he was Hi-jacked and then thrown off the cliff. SAPS Hillcrest was on scene to investigate. Highway Mail Daily News
On Saturday Rescuetech was called out to help two motorbike riders that had got lost and were dehydrated. Initial reports that the one rider had fallen after trying to get out of the bottom of the Valley. Meditech paramedics were put on standby to help us with any medical requirements.
With poor cell phone signal in the area, the one rider had to walk up a hill to call for assistance. He managed to get a whats app pin to one of his friends that then sent it out to us.
Lucky one of our members has an off road motorbike and was able to search the hill tops to try and make contact with the riders. After about 1 hour of searching, we managed to locate which Valley the riders were in.
Another Rescuetech member made his way to them by foot as the plant cover was very thick. After checking the riders out and giving them some water it was decided that they will leave a bike there and walk out.
Once at the top Meditech paramedic checked out the riders and was happy that there were no real medical problems.
Thanks to Meditech ER and #SAPS Search and Rescue to be on Stand by.
Thanks to Andreas Mathios from Blue Security - Durban for the visuals and video.
